Grande Prairie RCMP traffic stop leads to drug seizure and charges, driver from Fort McMurray charged

Grande Prairie, Alberta – Grande Prairie RCMP have laid drug trafficking charges, following a vehicle stop in the city.

On Sunday October 18, 2020 at approximately 6:00 p.m. Grande Prairie RCMP were conducting patrols when they observed a suspicious truck in the area of 97a Street and 100 Avenue. RCMP determined through their investigation that the licence plate did not match the truck and subsequently conducted a traffic stop. Upon further investigation police also learned that the driver did not have a valid operator’s licence and had outstanding warrants for his arrest. During a search of the truck police located 47.29 grams of bluish/purple fentanyl, 53 grams of methamphetamine and $1655 in Canadian currency.

The 56-year-old male driver from Fort McMurray was charged with:

· Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Fentanyl

· Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine

· Possession of Proceeds of Crime under $5000.00

· Operate an uninsured vehicle on a highway

· Operate a vehicle without a subsisting licence.

The male is currently in custody awaiting a judicial interim release hearing.
