More than 100 charges laid in 2019 shooting: Edmonton Police

Edmonton, Alberta – The Edmonton Police Service has arrested and charged six individuals in relation to the first of two shootings that took place on the same day in north Edmonton last year.

On Oct. 12, 2019, at approximately 1:35 a.m., Northeast Division officers responded to the report of a personal robbery involving a firearm at a business in the area of 127 Avenue and 97 Street.

It was reported to police that two males were standing outside of the business when six occupants pulled up in a vehicle and approached the two males, demanding their personal property. A brief altercation allegedly took place, and one of the vehicle’s occupants shot one of the males. The vehicle and all six occupants then reportedly fled the scene. A 17-year-old male was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other male was not injured.

On October 15, 2020, after a year-long investigation into the robbery, police arrested three males: Omarr Cameron-Bramwell, 20, Wahid Mounji, 21, and Gabir Fadlelmanan, 20 and three females: Alana Kovac, 19, Zinzile Nsingo, 19, and Phoenix Liddle, 19. The six accused are facing between eleven and thirty charges each related to robbery, assault and firearms offences. Collectively, they are facing 126 charges.

Background

At approximately 10:40 p.m. on Oct. 12, 2019, a similar event was reported to police involving a shooting outside of an entertainment establishment in the area of 111 Avenue and 96 Street.

In this occurrence, a vehicle with multiple occupants arrived at the location. An altercation then reportedly took place between the vehicle’s occupants and two males, and one of the vehicle’s occupants shot the two males. The suspects fled the scene, and the two injured males, age 21 and 22, were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police located the vehicle a short time later and took four suspects, three males and one female, into custody without incident.

Following a thorough investigation, officers believed the four suspects were involved in both shootings.

At that time, Omarr Jamal Cameron-Bramwell, 19, Gabir Fadlelmanan, 22, Wahid Mounji, 20, and Alana Nicole Kovac, 18, were each charged with aggravated assault (x2), careless use of a firearm, possess offensive weapon dangerous to the public, use of a firearm while committing an offence, unauthorized possession of a firearm/weapon in a vehicle and unauthorized possession of a firearm.
