High Prairie RCMP lay charges in bull dozer arson

High Prairie, Alberta – On Aug. 24. 2020, at 1:15 a.m., High Prairie RCMP received a call of a bull dozer on fire on the side of Township Road 782 on Peavine Metis Settlement, Alta.

High Prairie RCMP attended and efforts to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful. High Prairie Fire Department attended and extinguished the fire. The damages to the bull dozer exceed $500,000.

Further investigation of this incident has resulted in charges against two individuals.

Brett Blackhurst (23) and a 17-year-old male, both of High Prairie, are charged with arson. Both subjects were arrested and released on undertakings with conditions. Blackhurst is scheduled to appear in High Prairie Provincial Court on Nov. 16, 2020, and the youth is scheduled to appear in High Prairie Provincial Youth Court on Nov. 2, 2020.

The youth will not be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
