Iqaluit man charged with attempted murder

Iqaluit, Nunavut – In the early evening of October 27, 2020 Iqaluit RCMP responded for a call of service to a residence in a 300-block area and located a man in medical distress who appeared to be a victim of an apparent stabbing. The victim was immediately transported to the Qikiqtani General Hospital by EMS and received medical care for his injuries. The victim was later medevac’d to the south to seek further treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.

46-year-old Eliyah Jonah of Iqaluit, NU was arrested and charged with attempted murder – Section 239(1)(b) CC and Forcible Confinement – Section 279(2) CC as a result of the investigation. Jonah appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody. His next scheduled court appearance is November 17, 2020 at the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit, NU.
