Coaldale RCMP advise of Hwy 3 detour and poor road conditions

Coaldale, Alberta – On Nov. 9, 2020, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Coaldale RCMP received a call of a semi-truck and trailer that was jackknifed and blocking both lanes of Highway 3 approximately 3 km’s west of Lethbridge.

The semi-truck was westbound on Highway 3 and lost control, resulting in the semi-truck and trailer unit ending up jackknifed across both lanes of traffic. The driver was not injured.

Coaldale RCMP remains on scene and this collision remains under investigation.

Westbound traffic on Highway 3 is being diverted at the Highway 25 off-ramp. This is anticipated to continue for several hours until the semi-truck is towed from the scene.

Coaldale RCMP would like to warn motorists in the area to avoid unnecessary travel as high winds and ice are contributing to unsafe road conditions.

No further updates are anticipated.
