Iqaluit, Nunavut – On November 13th, 2020 at approximately 7:12 a.m., the Iqaluit RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance inside a residence in the 4100 area of Imiqtarviminiq Street. A 31-year-old man was threatening the occupants of the residence with a knife.
The Nunavut RCMP Critical Incident Team including a Containment Team and Crisis Negotiators, worked to bring this incident to a peaceful resolution. At approximately 5:45 p.m. the man was arrested. No one was injured as a result of this incident. The man will go before the Nunavut Court of Justice tomorrow and is facing the following charges:
Assault
Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
Failure to comply with Release Order x 4

The Nunavut RCMP Critical Incident Team has been working throughout the day to resolve this incident. Schools in the area were advised of the unfolding event.
The RCMP is asking residents living in the 4100 area of Imiqtarviminiq Street to refrain from returning home after work. If residents living in this area need to come or go for an emergency, please call the RCMP at 979-1111 for assistance.
