Whitehorse RCMP apprehend suspect in domestic disturbance

Whitehorse, Yukon – On November 15th 2020 at approximately 3:15 a.m., Whitehorse RCMP were dispatched to a residence to investigate a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival learned that the victim had been assaulted and threatened with a knife and a child was also injured.

The male offender left the location in his vehicle prior to arrival of the police. RCMP located the vehicle shortly thereafter which took flight at a high rate of speed within the city. In the interests of public safety, a spike belt was deployed that deflated the vehicle tires in a controlled manner and rendered the vehicle inoperable. After a brief pursuit on foot, the male was arrested and taken into custody.

The Whitehorse man is currently being held in custody. The name of the man is not being released out of respect for the victims. He was set to appear in court Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. for the following charges:

Assault with a weapon (Sec. 267(a) Criminal Code)

Uttering threats (264.1(1)(a) Criminal Code)

Mischief (Sec. 430(4) Criminal Code)

Breach of undertaking (Sec. 145(4)(a) Criminal Code)

Impaired operation of a motor vehicle (Section 320.14(a) Criminal Code)

Flight (Section 320.17 Criminal Code)

Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle (Section 320.13(1) Criminal Code)
