Sylvan Lake RCMP investigating mail thefts; “theft from over 40 mailboxes within the lobby of an apartment building”

Sylvan Lake, Alberta – The RCMP are investigating a Nov. 29 break in to, and theft from, over 40 mailboxes within the lobby of an apartment building. Public assistance is being sought to identify the male believed to be responsible.

At 4:24 a.m., a male entered the apartment building on Hinshaw Drive and pried open 40 resident mailboxes, removing mail from within the mailboxes. He departed in a vehicle. A surveillance photo was taken and is provided in the attachment, but unfortunately captures only a small portion of his face.

The Sylvan Lake RCMP, with Canada Post, are investigating this theft.

Community members are reminded to follow these tips in an effort to keep your mail safe:

– Check your mail every day

– If you plan to be away, have a trusted neighbour or family member check you mail

– Plan to be home when packages are supposed to be delivered or arrange an alternate pick-up location

– Don’t mail cash
