Airdrie, Alberta – In light of National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day, Airdrie RCMP conducted several Alberta check stops throughout the city on the evening of Dec. 5, 2020. As a result of these check stops, over 500 vehicles were stopped and every driver provided a breath sample through the use of Mandatory Alcohol Screening.
On a positive note, a majority of the breath samples taken had a result of 0 mg%. However, there were 3 drivers who were issued Immediate Roadside Sanctions. One suspension was issued for each of the following contraventions:
IRS: FAIL (equal to or exceeds 80 mg%)
IRS: ZERO NOVICE (Novice drivers cannot have any alcohol in their system)
IRS: 24 hr (equal to or exceeds 80 mg%)
There was an extremely positive response from the community during this event and many drivers expressed their gratitude for members being pro active in removing impaired drivers from our roads.
Impaired driving is a priority for Airdrie RCMP and Alberta check stops will continue to be held around the city throughout the holiday season.
