Grande Prairie RCMP seize guns and drugs following traffic stop

Grande Prairie, Alberta – Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) has charged three people with numerous offences, and seized drugs and weapons, following a traffic stop last week.

On Dec.2, 2020, at 8:30 p.m., RCMP CRU were making patrols in the Mission Heights neighbourhood when they observed a suspicious vehicle in front of a known residence. A traffic stop was conducted, at which time police determined one occupant of the vehicle was in breach of previous court release conditions, while another was wanted on outstanding warrants. All three occupants of the vehicle were arrested.

Further investigation led police to conduct a search of the 3 arrested persons and the vehicle.

These searches resulted in the seizure of the following:

loaded level action rifle, with 3x .44 ammunitions (hidden inside a violin case)

12 gauge shotgun (hidden inside a pool cue case)

brass knuckles

extendable baton

spring loaded pocket knife

stolen Alberta drivers licence

17.5 grams crystal methamphetamine

4.7 grams crack cocaine

16 Xanax pills

7 Methadone pills

8 Adderall pills

drug trafficking paraphernalia, including sale, ‘score sheet’, ‘dime bags’, and prepackaged drugs

Brian Healey (55) of Spirit River, Jonathan Derasp (31) of Grande Prairie, and Julia King (23) of Grande Prairie, have each been charged with the following:

possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

possession for the purpose of trafficking – methadone

possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine

possession for the purpose of trafficking – Xanax

possession for the purpose of trafficking – Adderal

possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle x2

unsafe storage of firearms x2

possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

Derasp is further charged with the following:

fail to comply with undertaking/ release order x7

possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order x3

possession of a prohibited weapon

King is further charged with the following:

fail to comply with undertaking/ release order x3

possession of a prohibited weapon

possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

illegal possession of government documents

Following judicial hearings, Derasp was remanded into custody to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Dec.7, 2020, while Healey and King were released to appear in court on Jan. 13, 2021.
