Okotoks RCMP On Scene of Incident; “residence was reported to have fired a shot at a bailiff who had attended the home to serve court documents” – CONCLUDED

Okotoks, Alberta – Okotoks RCMP have laid charges in relation to this incident and have seized several weapons as a result of a search warrant being executed at the residence.

Barron Richards (46) of Okotoks has been charged with:

· Careless use of a firearm

· Unauthorized possession of a firearm

· Use of a firearm in the commission of an offence

· Resist/obstruct a peace officer

After a judicial hearing Richards did not speak to bail and is scheduled to appear today in Didsbury Provincial Court.

As these matters are now before the courts, there will be no further updates.

Background:

Okotoks, Alberta – (1:04 PM) At 9am this morning the RCMP were called to a residence on Stanley Avenue in Okotoks. The lone occupant of the residence was reported to have fired a shot at a bailiff who had attended the home to serve court documents. The Emergency Response Team was deployed and Okotoks, High River and Turner Valley RCMP immediately responded to the scene and secured the area.

At 11:30am the Emergency Response Team took the male suspect into custody without further incident.

The suspect is facing a multitude of charges and the RCMP are continuing their investigation.

Thankfully no one was injured during the course of this incident.

The RCMP would like to thank the public and media for their cooperation during this event.

BACKGROUND

Okotoks, Alberta – (10:40 AM) Are on scene of an incident on Stanley Avenue in Okotoks, in the NW residential area of North Railway Street and Crystal Ridge Drive.

There is a heavy police presence in the area and both the Okotoks RCMP and Police Dog Services are on scene.

Residents in the area are asked to remain indoors and the public is asked to stay away from the area. RCMP is asking that their activity not be broadcasted on social media.
