Parkland County, Alberta – On Dec. 15, 2020 at 12:53 p.m. Parkland RCMP responded to a robbery complaint in the area of Sandhills Drive. A male and female suspect followed a delivery truck to a residence and took the package that was left on the doorstep. When the suspects attempted to leave, their vehicle became stuck in the snow near the driveway. The homeowner came out to assist and observed her package in the backseat of the suspect’s vehicle. When she confronted the male suspect, he admitted he took the package. The male suspect then deployed a can of bear spray towards the homeowner and her neighbor who had also stopped to assist. The suspect pulled the neighbor out of her vehicle and left in it at a high rate of speed. The neighbor’s dog was inside the vehicle at the time. The female suspect was left behind at the location and was arrested once police arrived.
A large quantity of methamphetamine and a firearm were located inside the suspect vehicle.
The two victims were treated for their exposure to bear spray and there were no other injuries reported.
The victim’s dog was located later that day by Spruce Grove Enforcement. The dog was not injured. The stolen vehicle was recovered in Spruce Grove the same day at a different location.
Alexandre Carriere was identified as the suspect responsible for the robbery. On Dec. 28, 2020, the Parkland RCMP Drug Unit with the assistance of Parkland and Leduc RCMP arrested Carriere in the parking lot of a Nisku hotel. Alexandre Carriere was found in possession of bear spray, a machete and a cattle prod upon arrest.
Alexandre Carriere (30) of Spruce Grove, Alta. was charged with a total of 18 charges including robbery, theft, assault with weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine, unauthorized possession of a firearm and resist arrest. He was remanded into custody. His first appearance is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2021 at Stony Plain Provincial Court.
The 22-year-old female suspect is being charged with theft. She cannot be named as her court documents are in the process of being sworn. She will appear in Stony Plain Provincial Court on Jan. 27, 2021.
