Kamloops RCMP investigating assault with a weapon at retail store

Kamloops, BC – Kamloops RCMP is seeking public assistance to identify a man who allegedly bear sprayed employees at a retail store on New Year’s Day.

Just after 5:00 p.m. on January 1, 2021, frontline officers from the Kamloops RCMP were called to a retail store in the 1100-block of Columbia Street W, Kamloops, for a report that several employees had been sprayed with what is believed to be bear spray.

Witnesses reported that a man had been attempting to steal clothing when he was confronted by employees, near the exit. The man deployed the spray, hitting several employees before departing the store on foot.

The man is described as:

Caucasian

Approximately 5’6

Facial tattoo

He was last seen wearing;

grey bucket hat,

black baggy jeans

red hoodie

“The surveillance video is not yet available, however we are asking anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident, and can help identify this man to contact the Kamloops RCMP,” states S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the BC RCMP.
