Granum, Alberta – On Jan. 7, 2021, at 9:22 a.m., The Fort Macleod RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 2, south of Claresholm near Granum. The collision involved a semi-truck (tanker) and a pick-up truck, and resulted in the death of one adult male.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the semi-truck had been travelling westbound on Highway 519 near Granum. After stopping at the intersection at Highway 2, the semi-truck turned northbound into the merge lane and was subsequently struck by the north bound pick-up truck.

There were four occupants in the truck. The 33-year-old female driver from Lethbridge and a 29-year-old male from the Blood Tribe received non-life threatening injuries and were transported to a local area hospital by EMS. A second passenger, a 26-year-old male also from the Blood Tribe was transported by ambulance however upon arrival at hospital had succumbed to his injuries. A 27-year-old female passenger from the Blood Tribe was airlifted in critical condition by STARS to an area hospital.
The driver of the semi tanker unit was not injured.
The RCMP collision analyst attended and was on scene until approximately 3:00 p.m.
All possible contributing factors relating to this collision are being considered, and the collision remains under investigation. The name of the deceased male will not be released.
