Buffalo Narrows, Saskatchewan – The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit North (MCU-N), with the assistance of several RCMP detachments and specialized units, have been working together to investigate the suspicious death of an adult male from Buffalo Narrows, SK, that occurred on December 20, 2018.
Police have interviewed witnesses to establish a clear timeline of the events, examined the scene, gathered evidence and worked with the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service to investigate the circumstances of his death.
Based on the information gathered, along with investigational assistance from the Buffalo Narrows RCMP, North Battleford and Regina RCMP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), RCMP MCU-South, the death of the adult male was determined to be a homicide.
The adult male victim has been identified as 42-year-old Jason Chartier from Buffalo Narrows, SK. Saskatchewan RCMP Victim Services have been engaged to provide Jason’s family with the support they need.
As a result of this investigation and consultation with the Crown, 67-year-old Robert Young of Buffalo Narrows, SK, has been charged with second degree murder for the death of Jason Chartier. Robert Young was arrested without incident in Buffalo Narrows by MCU-N on January 12, 2021, and taken into custody.
Robert Young is scheduled to make his first appearance in court in Buffalo Narrows on January 13, 2021, at 10 a.m.
RCMP Major Crimes Unit North/Buffalo Narrows RCMP – Suspicious death investigation
Shortly after 1:00 p.m. on December 20th 2018, Buffalo Narrows RCMP responded to a report of an injured, unconscious, adult male in a shed located behind a residence in Buffalo Narrows. Soon after RCMP arrived, EMS personnel declared the man deceased.
Major Crimes Unit North was called in and is treating the 42-year-old man’s death as suspicious. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
This investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is scheduled to be completed by Monday. Further updates will be provided as they become available. MCU North is being assisted by Buffalo Narrows RCMP, MCU South, North Battleford and Regina Forensic Identification Sections.
