Portage la Prairie RCMP make arrest in assault with a conducted energy weapon; “male had entered the home while a male and female slept”

Portage la Prairie, Manitoba – On January 21, 2021, at approximately 12:10 am, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of an assault at a residence on 18th Street NW. When officers arrived at the home, they found the door had been kicked in and a male had been assaulted with a conducted energy weapon.

Investigation determined a male had entered the home while a male and female slept. When the male resident went downstairs to see what was going on, he was assaulted with the weapon, then the suspect fled. The suspect was known to the victim.

When police arrived at the home of the suspect, in MacGregor, Manitoba, they arrested Brandon Pratt, 31. He is charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Breaking, Entering and Committing an Offence, and Fail to Comply with Release Order Condition to not own, possess, or carry a prohibited weapon.

He has been released pending a court date.

The 32-year-old victim received minor injuries.
