911 call from frantic female alerts Taber Police to dramatic Forcible Confinement, threats of suicide

Taber, Alberta – On January 23, 2021, at approximately 8:50 pm, Taber Police Service received a 911 call from a frantic female alleging that she had been held against her will. The investigation revealed that the female met up with a male, who was known to her, and she entered his vehicle. Once she was inside, the male drove off and began ranting suicidal thoughts. The male produced a handgun, threatened to harm himself, and threatened to crash the vehicle.

The female convinced the male to stop at a convenience store, where she was able to escape.

With the assistance of Coaldale RCMP, 36 year old Daniel Robert Conine, of Coaldale, was arrested. Conine has been charged with Forcible Confinement, Uttering Threats as well as Traffic Safety Act matters. He has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Taber Court on January 26, 2021.

The handgun was recovered and determined to be a replica BB handgun. The investigation continues and further charges are pending.
