Airdrie RCMP arrest and charge Calgary male after break and enter and a shooting

Rocky View County, Alberta – On Jan. 26, 2021 at approximately 3:15 p.m., Airdrie Rural RCMP received a call of a theft of motor vehicle in progress. The homeowner reported that the suspect was still on the property in the stolen truck and he was stuck in the driveway.

As police were en-route, a neighbour arrived and approached the suspect. The suspect fired a shot at the property owner and neighbor, and the neighbour returned fire in self defence. Thankfully no one was injured during this exchange.

Airdrie RCMP along with the assistance of Cochrane and Red Deer RCMP set up containment and awaited the arrival of K Division Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services. After attempts to have the suspect comply with police demands to surrender, the Police Service Dog was deployed and the suspect taken into custody.
