Flin Flon RCMP attend armed and barricaded call, make arrest

Flin Flon, Manitoba – On February 7, 2021, at approximately 5:40 pm, Flin Flon RCMP received a report of a male inside an apartment with a firearm who was not letting a female and an infant leave. Officers quickly surrounded the residence, and officers were deployed from surrounding communities to assist. A hostage negotiator was on scene to attempt to make contact with the 19-year-old male suspect. At the time, the temperature was -44 degrees Celsius.

The suspect exited the apartment, and then tried to re-enter the building when he was arrested. In the course of the arrest, the suspect assaulted one of the officers, who sustained a minor injury. Officers entered the apartment and assisted the victims. The female and the infant were not injured.

The male faces numerous charges, including Use of a Firearm in Taking Hostage, Unlawful Confinement, Assault a Peace Officer, and several firearm-related charges.

The suspect remains in custody.
