Hinton, Alberta – On Feb. 1, 2021, at 3:40 p.m., Hinton RCMP received a complaint of an abandoned vehicle that had been stripped of parts near Highway 16, just east of Hinton.
Hinton RCMP attended and further investigation showed the vehicle had been stolen out of Edson, Alta., a couple of days prior. As a result of the subsequent investigation, Hinton RCMP, in conjunction with Hinton General Investigation Section, executed a search warrant at a residence in Hinton on Feb. 4, 2021. This search resulted in the recovery of several stolen vehicle parts, documents, and illegal drugs.
A 39-year-old female from Hinton was arrested and charges are pending against her including:
· Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
· Possession of a controlled substance – fentanyl
As Hinton RCMP is currently part of a pilot project where charges are subject to a Crown approval process, the individual’s name cannot be released as the information has not yet been sworn before the courts.
“The seizure of these illicit drugs and recovery of this stolen property is important for the health and safety of our community,” says Sergeant Graham Gurski, Hinton RCMP Operations NCO. “Reducing property crimes remains a priority of the Hinton RCMP and we will continue to target these offenders to ensure a safer community.”
