Portage la Prairie, Manitoba – On February 8, 2021, at approximately 9:30 pm, an officer from the Portage la Prairie RCMP Detachment was patrolling on Saskatchewan Avenue West in Portage la Prairie. The officer observed a car with no licence plates travelling westbound on Saskatchewan Avenue at 5th Street NW. As the vehicle passed the officer, it was noticed that the vehicle did not have rear taillights illuminated.
The vehicle was stopped by the officer at Lorne Avenue and 8th Street NW. The male driver and lone occupant of the vehicle had no identification and no licence, and he provided a false name to the officer. Two shotgun shells were observed laying behind the driver’s seat of the car. When the car was searched, two loaded firearms were found as well as an extendable baton, which is a prohibited weapon.
The male was taken to the detachment, where police were able to positively identify him, as he was still providing a false name. Once police identified him, it was discovered that the male was on conditions to not possess firearms, not consume alcohol, and abide by a curfew.
Jordan James McIvor, 27, of Sandy Bay First Nation, is charged with Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose x3, Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Obstruct Peace Officer x2, Unsafe Storage of Firearms x2, Possession of a Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized and Failure to Comply x5. McIvor also faces charges under the Highway Traffic Act for not having a licence and the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Control Act for having open alcohol in the vehicle.
He remains in custody.
