Wearing a pillow case resembling a Klu Klux Klan hood will not result in charges: Peace Regional RCMP

Peace River, Alberta – Peace Regional RCMP’s investigation into a Jan. 8, 2021, incident at the Grimshaw post office, involving an individual wearing a pillow case as a COVID mask that resembled a Klu Klux Klan hood, is now concluded.

On Jan. 8, 2021, Peace Regional RCMP began an investigation into this matter. On Jan. 9, 2021, a suspect was identified and other investigative steps were taken, including witness interviews and the collection of photographic evidence.

Peace Regional RCMP have concluded that charges will not be laid in relation to this incident as there is no reasonable likelihood of conviction for any Criminal Code offence. This decision was made after conducting a thorough investigation and consulting with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service Office of Special Prosecutions.

Peace Regional RCMP’s investigation into this matter is now closed.

Grimshaw, Alta. – On Jan. 8, 2021, at approximately 6:15 p.m., Peace Regional RCMP received a complaint that an individual was wearing a head covering that resembled a “Ku Klux Klan” style hood at the Grimshaw Post Office earlier that afternoon.

Peace Regional RCMP initiated an investigation into this incident that also resulted in a post of an image of the individual involved on social media. Following several investigative steps, Peace Regional RCMP believe to have identified the individual involved in this incident. The Peace Regional RCMP’s investigation remains active and all information has been presented to the Office of the Crown Prosecution for review and opinion in late January.
