54-year-old man charged with second-degree murder of 49-year-old Monique Gallien: New Brunswick

Pont-Landry, New Brunswick – A 54-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder following an investigation by the RCMP Major Crime Unit into a homicide in Pont-Landry, N.B.

On February 24, 2021, at around 2:00 p.m., Northeast District RCMP responded to the discovery of a body found next to a vehicle on Chemin W. Gautreau. The body was that of 49-year-old Monique Gallien from the Tracadie area. An autopsy determined her death was the result of a homicide.

Daniel Jean of Pont-Landry appeared in Tracadie Provincial Court on March 1, 2021, and was charged with second-degree murder. The court ordered that he undergo a five-day fitness for trial evaluation.

He is scheduled to return to court in Caraquet on March 8.
