Canmore RCMP Searching for Male Suspect in the Downtown Core

Canmore, Alberta – Canmore RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance as they search for a male suspect in the downtown core.

At approximately 3:00 am on March 6, RCMP conducted a traffic stop with 2 vehicles traveling together on Highway 1. One of the vehicles stopped and the subsequent investigation led to the discovery of handguns and controlled substances in the vehicle. The second vehicle, a rented Hyundai SUV, fled from police and was found abandoned on 7th avenue in Canmore a short time later. Additional weapons were recovered from the Hyundai when it was located. The driver of the Hyundia fled on foot and Canmore RCMP continue to search the area.

The suspect is described as a male of middle-eastern decent, late 20’s to mid 30’s, short stature and slender build, wearing a white hoody, camouflage pajama pants and white shoes. The male was seen on main street at 9:00 am when he again fled on foot and then once more in the residential downtown area shortly before 11:00 am.

While there is no immediate concern for public safety, Canmore RCMP are advising the public of the increased police presence and believe the male may still be in the area. Anyone who may encounter the suspect should not approach him and call 911 immediately.
