Man charged in 2018 homicide: Edmonton Police Service

Edmonton, Alberta – The EPS Homicide Section has charged a man in relation to the 2018 death of a woman in central Edmonton.

At approximately 9:40 a.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2018, Downtown Division patrol officers responded to an address in the area of 102 Avenue and 115 Street after receiving a call requesting that police check on the welfare of two occupants of a suite in a multi-unit residence.

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased 69-year-old female and an injured 70-year-old male. The male was treated and transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

On Oct. 15, 2018, an autopsy on the deceased female conducted by the Edmonton Medical Examiner was inconclusive pending toxicology results.

Further investigations have since confirmed the manner of death to be homicide. The cause of death is not being released at this time.

On Mar. 10, 2021, Francois Belzile, 73, was arrested and charged with first degree murder in relation to the homicide of Christiane Belzile, 69.

The accused and the deceased were spouses.
