Truck driver sought as witness in DUDGEON homicide: Calgary Police

Calgary, Alberta – We are asking for help to identify the driver of a black Dodge Ram truck, as we believe they may have crucial information relating to the death of 32-year-old Daniel DUDGEON.

DUDGEON was killed outside of the Mazaj Lounge & Restaurant, located at 9223 Macleod Trail S.W., around 11:20 p.m on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021. His death is being investigated as a homicide.

Investigators want to speak to the driver of the truck. It is believed the victim met with the driver on the night he died, sometime before the truck dropped him off at Mazaj at 9 p.m.

The driver is not in trouble and investigators just need to ask him or her some questions about the victim. A CCTV photo of DUDGEON getting out of the truck is being released to help identify the driver.

BACKGROUND

Victim identified in Friday’s suspicious death

The death of a man who was found deceased in a parking lot outside of Mazaj Lounge & Restaurant on Friday night is now being investigated as a homicide. We are asking anyone who attended the restaurant that night to contact police.

At approximately 11:20 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, the Calgary Police Service and EMS were called to the parking lot of the Mazaj Lounge & Restaurant, located at 9223 Macleod Trail S.W., for reports of a man in medical distress.

Once EMS arrived the man in his early 30s was pronounced deceased. CPS patrol units attended, and the case was subsequently assigned to the Homicide Unit due to the suspicious nature of the death.

An autopsy was completed earlier today, Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, which identified the victim as Daniel DUDGEON, 32, of Calgary.

“We believe that the victim had spent some time inside the restaurant prior to being killed,” says Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm of the CPS Homicide Unit. “It is extremely likely that other patrons of the restaurant may have critical information that could help investigators solve the case, whether they had an interaction with the victim or not. Information that seems irrelevant or insignificant can often be the piece of information that investigators are missing.”

Investigators are specifically looking to speak with all patrons who attended the Mazaj Lounge & Restaurant on Macleod Trail, on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021, between 7 p.m., and closing. We are interested in speaking with all patrons of the restaurant, regardless of whether they believe they have information that could help investigators.

Anyone with information or witnesses the homicide is asked to call the Homicide Tip Line at 403-428-8877, or the CPS non-emergency line at 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
