Hinton RCMP investigate suspected drug overdoses of two males

Hinton, Alberta – Hinton RCMP and Hinton General Investigation Section are currently investigating the sudden deaths of two males in Hinton, Alta.

Police responded to the sudden death of a 29-year-old male on Feb. 27, 2021 and a 32-year-old male on March 6, 2021. The preliminary investigation indicates the deaths may be related to a drug overdose.

Hinton RCMP’s investigation continues and will include laboratory analysis of the substances suspected of being contaminated with lethal quantities of opioid-related substances.

Police warn there is potential risks and dangers of using, touching drugs/drug paraphernalia or anything they believe could be contaminated with drugs. These substances can pose a threat to persons handling it without taking appropriate health and safety precautions.

An overdose is always an emergency. If you witness a drug overdose, call 9-1-1 immediately and provide whatever assistance possible. Naloxone is a fast acting drug that temporarily reverses the effects of opioid overdoses and should be administered if its available.
