Third arrest made in homicide of 15-year-old Ibaad YAR: Calgary Police

Calgary, Alberta – We have made another arrest in the ongoing investigation into the homicide of 15-year-old Ibaad YAR.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2020, a 2010 Dodge Journey, traveling at a high rate of speed on southbound 52 Street, close to the interchange with 16 Avenue N.E., was struck from behind by a 2008 Buick Allure.

The Dodge Journey crossed over the centre median. YAR was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 17 year old, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faces one count of manslaughter.

“We know that the YAR family continues to mourn their loss of Ibaad” says Staff Sergeant Colin Chisholm, with the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “Identifying those responsible is one way in which we can help provide the family some solace”.

The driver of the Buick Allure was previously charged with second degree murder and dangerous driving causing death and another occupant of the Allure was previously charged with second degree murder.
