Evacuation of Village of Carmangay, Alberta due to fire

RCMP are reporting that the fire near the Village of Carmangay now appears to be under control. The Municipal District of Willow Creek are working on their re-entry plan. If residents have any questions they are encouraged to contact the Municipal District Office.

Vulcan RCMP was supported today by many other RCMP detachments. There were injuries sustained as a result of the fire and all injured persons are being treated for their injuries. Over 5000 hectares were damaged. In addition to the fire, RCMP had to deal with 3 semi rollovers and 2 other collisions as a result of the high winds.

At this time all highways in the area are open.

Vulcan, Alberta – (3:25 PM) Vulcan RCMP are currently assisting in the evacuation of the Village of Carmangay due to a large grass fire. This grass fire spans 7-10 miles and is out of control.

Please stay clear of Highway 520 east of Claresholm and Highway 23 from Barons to Carmangay.
