Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate found remains **UPDATE**

Fort McMurray, Alberta – On Mar. 20, Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of found human remains in a wooded area in the Thickwood area of Fort McMurray, Alta. An autopsy was held on Mar. 24, 2021 at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the cause of death has not been determined at this time.

RCMP Major Crime Unit’s investigation is ongoing. This area will remain closed to the public until further notice as police are still searching the area. The circumstances surrounding this death are still being investigated. Police are asking anyone who may have any information to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4040.

Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate found remains

Wood Buffalo, Alta. – On March 20, 2021 at 1:49 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of found human remains located in a wooded area near Silin Forest Road and Thickett Drive in Fort McMurray, Alta.

Wood Buffalo RCMP General Investigation Section, Wood Buffalo RCMP along with RCMP Forensic Identification Services will remain on scene continuing this investigation.

An autopsy will take place on March 24, 2021 at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton, Alta.

The identity of the deceased is unknown at this time.

The investigation is in the preliminary stages. An update will be provided once new information becomes available.
