Cochrane RCMP assisting with grass fire in Rocky View County, some homes evacuated – UPDATED

Rocky View County, Alberta – (8:39 pm) – Cochrane RCMP have opened traffic on Highway 1a in both directions. Fire crews will remain onsite throughout the night to monitor the situation. Residents previously evacuated have been permitted to return to their homes.

BACKGROUND

Rocky View County, Alberta – (4:41 PM) Cochrane RCMP remain on scene assisting Rocky View Fire Department. Some residents in the area have been evacuated. RCMP anticipate that Highway 1A will still be blocked both East and West bound for the next 2-3 hours while emergency crew work in close proximity to the Highway. Emergency crews will continue to re-assess the situation as it develops.

BACKGROUND

Rocky View County, Alberta – Cochrane RCMP advise that two homes have now been evacuated as well as the Ghost Station Gas Bar and the Wild Cat Gas Plant along Highway 1A.

Traffic along Highway 1A is not flowing west of Cochrane and east of Highway 40.

There has been one report of a motor vehicle collision along Highway 1A due to the reduced visibility caused by the smoke.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area.

BACKGROUND

Rocky View County, Alberta – Cochrane RCMP advise they are assisting Rocky View County Fire Department with a grass fire between Highway 40 near the Ghost Station Gas Bar and the Wild Cat Gas Plant along Highway 1A.

The fire is moving eastbound. There are currently no evacuation orders in place and no residences in any immediate danger. Emergency crews are monitoring and re-assessing the situation on an on-going basis.

Highway 1A is not directly impacted from the fire although smoke from the fire is affecting visibility. Motorists are asked to slow down if they encounter areas with reduced visibility due to the smoke.
