EPS officer struck while conducting vehicle stop on Whitemud

Edmonton, Alberta – EPS Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) is investigating a collision involving an on-duty member that occurred this morning on the Whitemud westbound.

At approximately 11:40 a.m. today, Monday, April 5, 2021, Southeast Division patrol members responded to a collision call on Whitemud westbound near 91 Street.

It was reported to police that the officer was conducting a traffic stop of a vehicle, and was walking in front of his EPS vehicle, when a cube van truck collided with his parked police cruiser, catapulting it forward and into the member.

The EPS cruiser was subsequently thrust forward and collided with the vehicle initially pulled over by the officer.

Paramedics treated and transported the EPS member to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the cube van, a 55-year-old male, remained on scene, and charges are pending. Any witnesses to this collision are asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone.
