Fatal boating incident in Sissiboo Grand Lake area: Nova Scotia

It was reported that three men were fishing in a 12-foot-aluminum boat and experienced motor problems.

Sissiboo Grand Lake, Nova Scotia – At 6:57 p.m. yesterday, Digby RCMP was called to an over-turned aluminum boat on Second Lake near Sissiboo Grand Lake.

RCMP and emergency responders including EHS, Fire and Ground Search and Rescue attended the remote area. It was reported that three men were fishing in a 12-foot-aluminum boat and experienced motor problems. While attempting to fix the problem, the boat over-turned and the three occupants were in the water. One man swam to shore and walked to an area to obtain cell service to report the incident.

Before 10 p.m. Fire Rescuers located in the water a 56-year-old man and a 49-year-old man both from Digby County. Both men were unresponsive, wearing life-vests and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation is continuing including cause of death. Criminality is not suspected.
