BC RCMP notify the IIO BC of an incident in Dawson Creek that resulted in injury to two women; “pick-up truck had crashed through the wall of a gym”

Dawson Creek, BC – The BC RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Dawson Creek that resulted in injury to two women.

Just before 10:00 p.m. on April 5, 2021, front line officers from the Dawson Creek RCMP were called to a report of a possible impaired driver. An officer located a pick-up truck matching the description provided by the complainant at a gas station in the 700-block of 100B Ave, Dawson Creek and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver allegedly failed to stop for police.

A short time later, Dawson Creek RCMP received a report that the same pick-up truck had crashed through the wall of a gym located in the 11000-block of 8 Street, striking two women. The driver fled from the scene on foot and was not located.

Both women were transported to a local area hospital by BC Emergency Health Services for treatment of serious injuries.

Dawson Creek RCMP front line officers are continuing to investigate numerous driving infractions, including flight from police, dangerous driving causing injury and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

IIO BC is investigating to determine whether police actions are linked to the women’s injuries. As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.
