Athabasca RCMP investigate fatal collision on Secondary Highway 813

On April 21, 2020, at approximately 11 p.m., Athabasca RCMP received a 911 call of a single vehicle rollover on Secondary Highway 813 approximately 120 kms north of Athabasca.

Athabasca, Alberta – On April 21, 2020, at approximately 11 p.m., Athabasca RCMP received a 911 call of a single vehicle rollover on Secondary Highway 813 approximately 120 kms north of Athabasca.

Preliminary investigation indicates a pick-up truck was traveling southbound on Secondary Highway 813 and the 78-year-old driver from Calling Lake, Alta., lost control, entering the east ditch and causing the truck to roll multiple times.

Fire services attended to assist with the scene and extrication of the passengers from the vehicle. Emergency medical services attended and provided first aid to four of the five occupants involved in this collision; however, one of the passengers, a 75-year-old female from Calling Lake was pronounced deceased at the scene. The name of the deceased will not be released.

Athabasca RCMP are investigating and it is believed poor road conditions contributed to this fatality.

The area of the collision remained restricted to traffic for a period of time until the highway was fully re-opened.
