Lethbridge Police suspend officer with ASIRT to investigate possible improper search of database

As a result of a possible, improper search of our database, the Lethbridge Police Service has suspended an officer and the matter has been referred to the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) for investigation.

Lethbridge, Alberta – As a result of a possible, improper search of our database, the Lethbridge Police Service has suspended an officer and the matter has been referred to the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) for investigation.

Lethbridge Police have also ordered an internal professional misconduct investigation under the Police Service Regulation, which will be held in abeyance until the ASIRT investigation is complete. The officer has been suspended with pay.

As the matter is now under investigation by ASIRT, Lethbridge Police are unable to comment or provide further details. As such, any media inquiries should be directed to ASIRT.

The search of the Niche database in question occurred on Feb. 5, 2021. Improper access of such information is taken very seriously by the Lethbridge Police Service. It was identified as an issue which needed to be addressed, and measures to prevent improper access of information were included in the action plan submitted to the Minister of Justice on April 13, 2021.
