Edmonton Police deem most recent suspicious death as homicide; charge man with murder

On Saturday, May 1, 2021, police responded to the report of a weapons complaint at a residence in the area of 90 Street and 134 Avenue.

Edmonton, Alberta – Homicide investigators have charged a 19-year-old man in relation to the city’s most recent homicide.

Matthew Weston, 19, is charged with first-degree murder in relation to the death of 18-year-old Paul Onalik.

On Saturday, May 1, 2021, police responded to the report of a weapons complaint at a residence in the area of 90 Street and 134 Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located Paul Onalik in life-threatening condition. He was treated and transported to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim and accused were both known to one another.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at 9 a.m..

Homicide Section continues to investigate. No additional information is being released at this time.
