Drayton Valley RCMP remind residents of mandatory evacuation due to continued high winds and the threat of wild fires

Parkland County, Alberta – Due to continued high winds and the threat of wild fires, a mandatory evacuation has been issued for the area north of Hwy 624 up to Township 530 and west towards Hwy 22. At this time, there is no re-entry plan in effect. Barricades have been put in place to protect the safety of everyone. Residents will be advised when it is safe to return to their residences.

Sgt Erin Matthews, officer in charge of the Drayton Valley RCMP advised, “Right now, we need people to understand that our ability to keep their residence safe and secure depends on us keeping the area contained”.

It is an offence to drive around barricades. Penalties vary and could result in a violation ticket or charges under the criminal code.
