Lethbridge Police Service suspends officer with ASIRT to investigate allegations

During the course of another investigation, information was received regarding the potential mishandling of possible evidence by a LPS officer.

Lethbridge, Alberta – The Lethbridge Police Service has suspended an officer over allegations now being investigated by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT).

During the course of another investigation, information was received regarding the potential mishandling of possible evidence by a LPS officer.  As provided by the Police Act, the provincial Director of Law Enforcement has directed ASIRT to investigate the matter.

Lethbridge Police have also ordered an internal professional misconduct investigation under the Police Act and Police Service Regulation, which will be held in abeyance until the ASIRT investigation is complete. The officer has been suspended with pay.

As the matter is now under investigation by ASIRT, Lethbridge Police are unable to comment or provide further details. As such, any media inquiries should be directed to ASIRT.
