Lethbridge Police investigating suspicious fires on city’s southside

Multiple 911 calls reported fires on the city’s southside about 2:20p.m. The first was observed in the 500-block of 12 Street South, where a fire began in a couch in the alley.

Lethbridge, Alberta – Lethbridge Police are working with Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services to investigate a pair of suspicious fires Tuesday, May 18, 2021.

Multiple 911 calls reported fires on the city’s southside about 2:20p.m. The first was observed in the 500-block of 12 Street South, where a fire began in a couch in the alley. Flames spread to a nearby fence but firefighters were able to contain it.

About 15 minutes later, calls reported a fire in the alley of the 600-block of 5 Street South, with another couch on fire. It spread further to a shed, vehicle and fence, and with high winds fanning the flames, it spread to a neighbouring, detached garage. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before the house caught on fire.
