UPDATE: Two occupants trapped inside garbage truck after collision with semi pulling horse trailer

Leduc, Alberta – On June 17, 2021 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Leduc RCMP received a 911 call of a serious collision involving a garbage truck and a semi pulling a horse trailer with three horses onboard at the intersection of Range Road 245 and Township 484 in Leduc County, Alta.

Leduc RCMP with emergency services attended the scene and located the two occupants of the garbage truck trapped inside the vehicle. Fire Services assisted with the extraction of both occupants of the garbage truck.

The 53-year-old male driver of the garbage truck was transported to hospital via STARS air ambulance with serious injuries and the 30-year-old male passenger was transported to hospital via ground ambulance with serious injuries.

The 57-year-old male driver of the semi was not injured.

One of the horses was found to be entrapped in the trailer.

A local area veterinarian attended the scene and assisted Fire Services with the extrication of the horse. All three horses were assessed by the veterinarian on scene and taken into their care for treatment of minor injuries.

Leduc RCMP, along with an RCMP Collision Reconstructionist, are investigating the cause of the collision.

No further updates are anticipated.
