Wetaskiwin RCMP investigate fatal collision on Alberta Highway 2A near Township road 472

Wetaskiwin, Alberta – On June 18, 2021, at approximately 9 a.m., Wetaskiwin RCMP received a 911 call of a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 2A near Township road 472 near Wetaskiwin.

Wetaskiwin RCMP attended and further investigation indicated a car was traveling northbound in an erratic manner and went into the lane of oncoming traffic and collided with a gravel truck heading southbound on Highway 2A.

Emergency medical services and fire services also attended the scene. The 41-year-old male driver and lone occupant of the car, from Wetaskiwin, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The name of the deceased will not be released. The driver and lone occupant of the gravel truck was taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Wetaskiwin RCMP are investigating the cause of this fatality.
