Strathcona County RCMP arrest male for hit and run/flight

Strathcona County, Alberta – On June 28, 2021 at approximately 8:20 p.m. an off duty RCMP officer in Sherwood Park advised that he had witnessed a male driving a silver Pontiac pursuit that hit a parked car and left the location of Summerton Gate. RCMP patrolled the area and were able to locate the suspect vehicle. The driver had shown signs of impairment when seen driving and continued to drive in an erratic manner. The vehicle went over curbs and drove at high rates of speed. Police activated their emergency equipment to attempt to stop the vehicle due to a lot of the members of the public being out, but the driver would not comply. An attempt to stop the vehicle was made and the driver ran into the front of the police vehicle causing extensive damage to both vehicles. The driver was able to back up and take off again, but members of the public were able to point to where the vehicle went as it came to a stop in a residential neighbourhood. The driver then got out and ran on foot. Police were able to catch and arrest the male without further incident.
