The male suspect then fled the scene on foot, before being arrested and taken into custody by police in the backyard of a nearby residence.

The two injured males, 25 and 35 years of age, were treated and transported to hospital by paramedics with serious injuries. One of the male complainants has since been released from hospital, though the second complainant remains in hospital at this time in serious, but stable condition.

EPS investigators have since charged Lance Cardinal, 49, of Goodfish Lake, AB, with aggravated assault (x2), attempted murder (x2) and possession of a restricted firearm (x2).

Investigators believe the shootings were random in nature rather than targeted offences.

The accused’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 14, 2021.
