Fort MacLeod RCMP assist Fire and EMS with possible chemical exposure at campground

Fort MacLeod, Alberta – On July 25, 2021, at 11:20 p.m., Fort MacLeod RCMP, along with Fire and EMS, responded to a campground for a report of several people having trouble breathing.

Ambulances from Alberta Health Services, Blood Tribe, Pincher Creek and Picture Butte, Alta., attended the scene to assess and transport patients who were suffering from respiratory issues. Approximately 6 people were assessed at the scene and 3 were transported to local hospitals.

The preliminary investigation indicated that there may have been a chemical leak from an unknown source. The Fort MacLeod Fire Department attended and searched for the source of the possible chemical leak and no contaminants were found in the campground and surrounding area. Air quality tests indicated that any hazardous material was no longer present and the area was deemed safe for the public.
