Leduc Integrated Traffic Unit responds to semi tipped over blocking highway

Leduc, Alberta – (Thu, Aug 12, 9:43 PM) On Aug. 12, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Leduc Integrated Traffic Unit (ITU), compromised of Alberta Sheriffs and RCMP Traffic Services, responded to a report of a semi-truck with tractor trailer tipped over blocking Highway 2 northbound, approximately 100 meters north of Highway 2A. The lone male driver had no reported injuries. No other vehicles were involved.

The semi-truck with trailer reportedly entered Highway 2 from Highway 2A. It has yet to be determined what caused it to turn onto its side. The diesel fuel leak has been cleaned up. The load being transported is considered non-hazardous. Crews are on scene and working to have the load transferred, then the tow trucks will be able to assist with removing the semi-truck with trailer from the roadway. This is anticipated to block Highway 2 just north of Highway 2A until after midnight.

Traffic northbound on Highway 2, is being rerouted at Township Road 490, for travel east or west, to ease the traffic waiting at Highway 2A. Northbound traffic is also being rerouted at Highway 2A, for travel east or west, to then use alternate northbound roads.

Once the scene is cleared, an update will be provided.
