Redcliff RCMP arrest male suspect in robbery: Irvine, Alberta

Irvine, Alberta – (8-Sept-2021 8:51 AM) On September 6, 2021 shortly after 1:00 p.m., members from the Redcliff RCMP Detachment responded to a report of a robbery at the Irvine Hotel.

A male entered the hotel bar allegedly brandished a hammer and demanded money from an employee. The employee refused to provide any money and male and left the hotel.

The male was seen fleeing in a white Dodge Ram pickup truck. Police attended the area and located the white Dodge Ram truck on Highway 1 near Dunmore, Alta.

The investigation determined the vehicle had been reported stolen in Saskatchewan.

Attempts to stop the Dodge Ram by police were unsuccessful.

With the assistance of Brooks RCMP and the Redcliff Integrated Traffic Unit, the suspect was subsequently located and arrested after he fled on foot from the Dodge Ram into a field west of Suffield.

Artsiom Akhverdziyeu ( 21) of Herbert, Sask., has been charged with the following offences:

· Robbery

· Flight from police

· Dangerous operation of a conveyance

· Assaulting a police officer (x4)

· Mischief under $5000

· Operate conveyance while prohibited

· Possession of a stolen vehicle

· Fail to comply with probation order (x2)

· Possession of property obtained by crime

After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Akhverdziyeu was released on a no cash deposit release order and is scheduled to appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on Oct. 5, 2021.

As these matters are now before the courts, no further details will be provided.
