Grande Prairie RCMP Drug unit investigation leads to arrests and seizure of drugs

Grande Prairie, Alberta – (10-Sept-2021 9:17 PM) Grande Prairie RCMP arrested three people and seized drugs following a drug trafficking investigation.

On Aug. 14, 2021, Grande Prairie RCMP municipal drug unit, along with assistance from Grande Prairie RCMP officers, Grande Prairie RCMP crime reduction unit and Grande Prairie RCMP Police dog services, executed two search warrants within Grande Prairie following a drug trafficking investigation.

During the searches, several items were seized including what is believed to be:

· 260 grams of cocaine

· 32 grams of fentanyl

· 17 grams of crystal methamphetamine

Police also seized a loaded 9mm handgun, $29,000. in Canadian Currency and multiple other items relating to drug trafficking.

Jordan Monette (28) and Meagan Harris (38), both of Grande Prairie have been charged with:

· Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking x 2

· Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

· Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.

A 17-year-old male youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with:

· Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking x 2

· Unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm

· Possession of a restricted firearm with readily accessible ammunition

· Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized

· Careless storage of a firearm

· Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

Following a judicial hearing, the youth was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Sept. 27, 2021. Monette and Harris were released from custody on undertakings and are scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial court on Oct. 13, 2021.
