WRPS Robbery Unit has made arrests after a loaded handgun was located in a stolen vehicle

Kitchener, Ontario – The Waterloo Regional Police Service’s Robbery Unit has made arrests after a loaded handgun was located in a stolen vehicle.

On September 14, 2021, at approximately 11:30 p.m., police responded to the area of Kingsway Drive in Kitchener for a report of a carjacking. The victim was in the area when five males with handguns allegedly assaulted him and stolen his motor vehicle.

The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

On September 21, 2021, as a result of the ongoing investigation, members of the Robbery Unit located the stolen motor vehicle in the area of Grulke Street in Kitchener.

As a result, a 22-year-old Kitchener male, and a 19-year-old Kitchener female, were arrested. Police seized a fully loaded handgun, ammunition, along with suspected cocaine and prescription medication.

The male and female have been jointly charged with drug and firearm-related offences.

Further investigation led to a search warrant being completed at a residence in the area of Thaler Avenue in Kitchener. Police seized two prohibited devices, ammunition, and approximately $22,000 in cash.

As a result of the investigation, the male was held for a bail hearing and was additionally charged with Robbery with a Firearm, along with other firearm and drug-related offences in connection to the carjacking incident.

The female was released on an Undertaking.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further charges are anticipated.
