Inuvik RCMP initiate Search and Rescue for missing man

Inuvik, Northwest Territories – Inuvik RCMP have initiated a Search and Rescue operation in relation to a missing man last seen in the water near the boat launch.

Inuvik RCMP received a call for service at approximately 4:20 am, September 24, regarding a potentially missing person. RCMP attended the scene, as well as Inuvik Fire and EMS. A 29-year-old man had gone into the water and could no longer be seen.

A second victim was located, a woman, and has been attended by Fire and EMS. RCMP began an immediate search for the man, reported to have been last seen in the water near the boat launch.

Currently, the search is both on land and water. RCMP are actively searching and organizing the search with several partner agencies assisting. A helicopter has also been deployed with RCMP resources on board.

Inuvik volunteers and resources have also joined the search, under the stewardship of the RCMP.

The search is on going. As this is early in the process, we do not have further information at this time. Updates will be provided as they become available.
